Meet Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts, a theater in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. I originally met Lauren when I auditioned for her production of the musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim. If you didn’t know already, Into the Woods is a staples in the musical theatre cannon and is one of Sondheim’s most famous and prolific works. I was cast as the Steward, which was a very fun character for me to play!
Lauren founded SALT Performing Arts in 2014 with her friend and business partner David DiMarino with the mission to bring quality theatrical events and theatre education to Chester Springs. They often bring in educators with Broadway and National Tour experience to give their students the best education in theatre possible. Lauren is a skilled businessperson, and I have learned a lot from her. She also is a licensed life coach, and through that I have learned how to live a better, more fulfilling life. There truly is nothing Lauren cannot do if she puts her mind to it!
Lauren and I have developed a great relationship in our personal lives as well as in business. She and I often talk about business-related topics, and I always love to share with her my favorite business tips and tricks, such as utilizing the app ScannerPro and the email client Newton Mail. I also do some of their promotional photography and I am a contributor to SALT’s social media channels. I also still act and perform there. Productions I have been in at SALT include Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, the Christmas Spectacular, and A Christmas Cabaret. I hope to have the opportunity to perform with SALT Performing Arts for many years to come!
This shoot was especially wonderful because it took place prior to auditions for the very first SALT’s Got Talent, a competition in which teenage contestants sing musical theatre and pop songs to compete for a grand prize of $1000. One of my other clients, Grant Holcomb, won the competition. He did a fantastic job! I had the privilege of shooting promotional video for this event for the company VoxiPop, a local news media platform based in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania that live streamed the event and created promotional and behind the scenes material leading up to the final round.
For this shoot, we visited the patio behind the West Pikeland Township Building, the location of SALT’s theater. We utilized natural light in conjunction with a reflector to create a soft, even light that compliments her brand and her personality. Her best friend Danielle Burrows assisted us, and then they traded spots so I could take Danielle’s headshots. I am very fortunate to have met Danielle that day. She is an accomplished Philadelphia writer and producer and has worked with companies such as TLC, A&E, and PBS. She also frequently works with small and medium sized businesses. Danielle is based in Philadelphia, which is about an hour drive from Chester Springs. She will use her business headshots in her marketing, on her social media, and on her website. Both of these women are highly inspirational in their drive to create meaningful businesses and careers, and I look forward to working with them again in other photo shoots in Chester Springs or in Philadelphia!
